The dealer button in the game indicates the player that becomes the nominal dealer. A ‘small blind’ is posted by the player next to the button once the game begins, and the player immediately clockwise to the small blinds must post the ‘big blind’. ‘Ante’ is a forced bet that each player has to place into the pot. It is smaller than the blinds and will depend on the exact structure of the game. Two hole cards will be dealt to each player, and the betting action starts with the player ‘under the gun’ and proceeds clockwise. Once this stage is complete, every player is allowed to pick the available options on the table, namely ‘fold’, ‘bet’, ‘call’, ‘check’, and ‘raise’. The action of the previous player will determine the options available for the current bettor. With no bets having been placed, a player can either check or bet. If a bet has already been placed, the subsequent player will have the options to raise, call, or fold

Every player has the option of raising the big blind after receiving the hole cards. The action will start to the left of the big blind and proceeds clockwise around the table. Betting continues until all active players have placed equal bets in the pot in the various betting rounds. This is called pre-flop. Once this stage is over, three cards will be dealt face-up on the board, and the active player immediately clockwise from the button can begin betting. This is called the ‘flop’. A fourth community card is dealt face-up on the board when the betting action for the flop round is complete. The betting for ‘turn’ starts with the active player clockwise to the button.
